Below you will find the results of my having challenged myself for a number of days to write a short story with a beginning and middle and an end inside of 30 minutes. Here is what I came up with. I hope you like it.
Two drummers and bass player and a keyboard guy. Soft Machine. Magma. Some ELP. Some Zappa. Lots of King Crimson. Their biggest song – their least unpopular one – was called “St. Augustine Monster.” It was a moody, 20 minute nautical tale. When it reached its climax, the bass player’s brother, who told everyone he had gone to Vietnam, but hadn’t, would fire an arrow from a compound bow into a target attached to a bale of hay near the stage. Upon impact, the band would instantly cut out. They thought it was a nice effect. Nobody got hurt.
