The War On Christmas

Below you will find the results of my having challenged myself for a number of days to write a short story with a beginning and middle and an end inside of 30 minutes. Here is what I came up with. I hope you like it.

“Your father tried to build a wooden Santa Claus model that was filled with explosives. He was going to leave it on the sidewalk. It was supposed to burst into flames.”

“Why?”

“You father hated Christmas.”

“How did he die?”

“The big Santa exploded prematurely, killing him.”

“When?”

“The day after Halloween. He was torn apart by the decorations.”

“Christmas decorations?”

“Yes.”

“Not Halloween decorations?”

“No.”

“Earlier and earlier, every year. Ridiculous.”

  1. I’m really glad I swallowed that last mouthful of hot chocolate before reading the end of this or my computer screen would have been a mess.
